Aus hip hop has too many tough guys.

Miss the days of Biggie, Eazy, NWA, etc.

so hang on...

you dont like tough guys.

but you like biggie and NWA

not sure if srs.

@wittyname - that Evidence record is incredible

yea so many tough guys, that headlock guy has issues. Plus he once picked his nose and wiped it on someone's couch! (I may have just found an old after hours cd...)

I agree, evidence album is sick.

Also liking mac miller, and the Aus hip hop supports canteen album

If you took note of the thread title it clearly states "What happened to hip hop/rap?". I couldn't give the slightest f**k what music people like but if your trying to link real hiphop make sure its actually real hiphop before linking artists like ace hood.

Like Hip Hop or Rap?

This blog is a good read for anyone that was there for the "golden age" (90's) and now, but if you were around when mentioned rappers dropped you'll appreciate this blog a little more and where this guy is coming from.

Its his top 50 rappers of all time, and its just a darn good read, based on talent not making you the greatest. If your not familiar with any of these emcees check them out, although anyone and everyone could debate until there blue in the face who's the best ever, he certainly makes good reason for his.

I've been following it for the past 47 and after he got into the top ten i was eagerly waiting for new the new posts.

*people often ask what happened to rap, imo it became a business, the art got left behind.

I've been pretty picky with songs for a couple of months now. If the song is poorly produced I just can't seem to be able to listen to the song regardless of lyrical talent!

Agree that mainstream rap has become a business and I believe the best example of this is Dr Dre's Detox album. He has been working on that damm album for well over 5 years and keeps saying it's almost done and he is finishing the last tracks or keeps telling everyone it's due to come out this year or the next blah blah blah. He then releases 2 terrible singles that were clearly advertisements for his "By Dre" line and a limited edition Beats by Dre Detox headphones.

Maybe Detox will be the album that gets released after he dies to make some more cash. On that thought I might pick up a pair for Detox headphones now and keep to only sell them for 6 times the price to some old fan of his

2 artists left, and no mention of Nas so far...

Nas no.2 & Posdnous from De La no.1.

Time to revisit some De La.

Good to see Ras Kass being near the top. I was hoping he'd be top ten, great to see he toys with him being No.1.

Never saw this thread before. Hip hop is still alive, It's just not as big. Here are some great tracks you can appreciate;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p5QcdDndCs&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF-gkk-K_nk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cppvHpdwJyU&feature=related

If you can't appreciate atleast one of those three tracks, Hip hop/rap isn't your taste.

Obviously I am abit of a midwest rap fan!
