Insurance

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking of getting a bike license and bike this year, and im trying to roughly calculate some of the costs involved.

I was wondering who you guys use for insurance, and how much it costs you. Also the type of insurance you have, i.e full comp or third party.

Insurer:

Insurance type:

Insurance cost:

With a bit of luck this could be a good reference thread for other people too.

QBE are the motorbike insurance specialists - They'll beat any other quote guaranteed and automatically cover your riding gear upto $4000. You're also entitled to opt out of this but will only save you a petty $20. Call 1800 243 464 for a quote

Insurance type: Third Party

Insurance cost: $169

What bike you have: Kawasaki ER-6n

When i first applied for insurance 3 years ago (as a 17 year old male), Shannons Insurance (who advertise insuring motorcyclists) did not want to have anything to do with me due to my age. I then went to Insure My Ride for Full Comprehensive and was quoted at about $3000... thats nearly half the price of my bike! Then i thought i'd do a little test so i changed my gender to female and changed nothing else. Guess what, $200 cheaper...

Went with QBE once, never again. They are not cheaper either. I had nothing but BS and dramas with QBE ... PM me if you want details, as its only slander if I tell my story here.

Insure My Ride is the way to go.

MV Agusta Brutale $18,000 = $1092 per year with Insure My Ride ... or $1472 with QBE ... $1200 something with Swan

TL1000R, $12,000 = $484 per year with Insure My Ride ... or some $750 with QBE

QBE

third party @ $414.

24 year old

03 r6

This was the cheapest I could find based on my history and the fact my bike is modified, which isn't a huge issue with qbe.

insuremyride didnt like me for some reason!

i think you have to decide whether you need full comp or 3rd party property. with a bike thats a few years old, unless it's something special the spare parts might be cheap enough and it wont have much resale value so maybe 3rd party might be the way to go.

actually i know plenty of experienced daily rider who have no insurance other than the 3rd party that comes with rego. risky stuff but i guess it keeps them on their toes..

much the same. but mines $8500, with 2k riding gear and 1k personal items.

paying 60 a month so 720 a year.

2002 GSXR600

bike was stolen back in january. they treated me like the thief for 4 weeks. took a while to get everything ready to claim. by week 5 my bike was found. they chose to repair what i was hoping was a write off. the mech of their choice was apparently a top grade guy. his quotes were grosly inadequate and i had to make subsequent quotes. right up till last week i was still making subsequent request for yet more shit to be done WHICH SHOULD OF BEEN DONE FROM THE START!!!!

i didint get the option of choosing a repairist. but they did choose one close to me so that was convenient. from time of theft.. to time of return.. over 4 months. took over 3 months just on repairs. then weeks later.. for final things to be cleared up.

What do you mean they treated you like a thief? Did they interrogate you for hours or something? I'm worried cause I'm also insured with them and don't want the hassle if I ever needed to file a claim.

Is that for comprehensive, cos I don't have a bike license yet, but I did a quote yesterday for me on a Ninja 250R and the premium was gonna be like $1400, so based on that not too keen on InsureMyRide...
