REVS/KNIGHTSPORTS DRIFT SPEC FD3S

Recommended Posts

hey hey peoples, I thought it was about time I launched my FD on MAZDRIFT as its starting to get to the pointy end of the build.

I wanted to show every1 how the build in real time, plus the tech side of it so you can see the high level of engineering that goes in to building a car of this caliber.

Im going to tell the story of how it all started and show as many pics as I can about the build and the parts that we make and buy from JAPAN . .

It all started in november 2007, I had made the desicion to buy a FD for drift as its a car that is not fully represented in the drift scene here in Australia and Its platform base in my opinoin is the best set up for top level drifting.

After spending a few weeks searching for a shell ,I managed to source one from a top lad here in S.A for the

right price $4000, being a complete car [JAPANESE IMPORT] minus engine and gearbox. after looking over the shellI could see that its in very good condition ,No dents and the chassis is perfect. . . . Good deal I think ! !

heres some pics of what I saw the first time I went to have a look at it . . . . .

PICT0455.jpg

PICT0456.jpg

gotz to get a move on with it as all the gear from KNIGHTSPORTS is on the boat from japan

so I have a few weeks to get it ready

the things i have left to do are;

-finish stripping all the sound deadner out

-get the full weld-in cage done

-get it to REVS and stitch weld the whole car

-then of to the paint shop to fit the kit and paint the car inside and out

-fit the engine and all the KNIGHTSPORTS gear

so theres a bit of work to be done

on another note pulled over 40kg of wirring out how crazy is that nearly 1 person worth of wirring

PICT0450.jpg

so yeah I'll keep you all up dated as the work gets done . . .

the finished product should be up there with the drift FD's you see in japan, thats where Ive got my inspiration

peace

Nice, its coming together.. what are the springs on the exhaust flange for :S?

looks like a stainless steel flange. cant weld stainless to titanium, so you make an adaptor (see the round end) and hold it in with a spring(s).

can't they have a titanium flange??? what are the benefits of titanium? strength, weight, exhaust flow?

build is looking awesome cliff. i hope i can be in adelaide again to see it in the flesh, or have a battle! haha. two generations apart.

The spring section pretty much is a flange. The steal flange gets welded to your other exhaust section, then the spring mechanism is the other flange.

Comprende?

but what's the point of it?

all i can think is that it could be a quick release by unhooking the springs. can the springs make it seal to contain the pressures from the exhaust gas? is it sealed metal to metal?

just curious :)

I have seen someone trying to remove these types of springs before, and it appeared to be no easy feat. They are quite a high rate spring.

You'd best be speaking to an axhaust expert on the benefits and drawbacks of such a system.
