Rob's SR20DE+T 180sx

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

This will be a thread where I am going to log the progress of my 180sx

And record my quarter mile times and mile per hour with different power levels

I have not drag raced in about 12 years when I owned a s13 silvia

It made 170rwhp and ran a best of 13.88 with stock suspension and 235 tyres with standard camber ( no adjustment)

The 180sx has 235 rear tyres , 2 inch lowered suspension ( tomei circuit strokes set to softest settings) , camber is set to 0.5 degrees and toe is 0.5 degrees. Car makes 255rwhp on 13 psi at the moment

Will post when I got some results

Ran car last night and a little disappointed with 1/4 mile time but mph was good

14.2 @ 105 mph

60 foot was 2.5 ( need to improve)

1/8 mile was 9.5 (slower then my 13.8)

Leaving line at 4500-5000 ( clutch up and handbrake up )

No or minimum wheel spin so I was told by my mates that watched

My ruff guess is that with that mph a 13.4-13.5 should be acheivable

What do you guys think?

MPH is good for a low 13.

My daily / tow car goes 13.2 @105

60 foot average of 2.0 but have had the odd pass where it gets 1.9

Some quicker times should be had If I ran better tyres too (using china's finest 205/65/15)

Letting the clutch out, handbrake down and applying throttle at the same time.

Its fairly hard on the clutch.

RT's werent the best. and some launches were inconsistant but when I got it right, the times tumbled

Thinking of changing launch technique to revs upto about 4500 and more of a clutch "dump" once it is close to being fully disengaged. No hand brake at all ( if it doesn't roll on the line by itself).aim is to get 60 foot to 2.0/2.1

Ran a best of 13.6 @ 107 mph tonight 18/07/14

launched at 3400-3500 bogged a little bit but not to bad

thinking next time 3800- 4000 rpm launch to get it to drive out of hole hopefully

ran 2 runs back to back 13.7 @ 105 mph (launched at 3000-3200)

so progress so far was first run 2 weeks ago 14.7 @ 105 MPH

and this week last run 13.6 @ 107 mph

happy with the car at this point

best 60 foot so far is 2.3

Hi guys and girls,

Just come back from track

Not the best night for racing

We had 36 degree day today and 80% humidity

Car struggled to get off the line without bogging or wheel spinning

Got 8 runs in tho

Could not better a 13.8

Mph was down 3 mph

But my last run was at almost full tyre pressure (32psi) and ran a flat 2.3 60 foot which is my best so far

I found so far launching best so far for me is to hold revs to 4.5k rpm

And slowly let the clutch not dumping and press the accelerator peddle down the same speed and time as the letting the clutch out

Once the car starts moving you can flat foot the accelerator

Sounds easier than it is to do but brought my 60ft down from 2.3 to 2.0 on street tyres

Learnt this technique from my friend you can get 1.6-1.7 60ft consistently

Around 30-32psi doesn't really help traction if you drop tyre pressures on street tyres only works well on et streets or drag slick tyres

Cheap Achilles atr sport tyres 235/45/17

I'll be out there tonight helping Adam (bumblebee) get a PB :thumb:

And getting some footage...

I reckon my car has more than the 170kw dyno reading it produced. Yours has 20kw more at the wheels and I'm just quicker with a 13.4 @ 103mph. Adam (bumblebee) didn't crack a new PB last night, his best was a 12.9 @ 117mph.

What wheel and tyre setup you got Tim sil80

I run 180sx stockos running old 205 tires, with a coat of octopus grip tyre softner at 22psi. Think my 60ft time on the 13.4 was a 1.9.

Does octopus grip work on street compound?

It's designed for semi slicks/slicks but does make a small improvement to street tires, especially the 5 year old rock hard tyres that were on the stock rims when I bought them.

Question For all the seasoned races out there .

General rule of thumb is every 0.1 sec off 60 foot time equals 0.2 sec at finish line.

Why did my time only improve by 0.16(13.51 from 13.67)

What are the theories?

Maybe revving to far past peak torque?

Raced last night 24/04/15

ran 13.4 @ 106mph on last run

ran 1.98 60 foot back to back

Your on par with me now, except your running 3 mph quicker over the line.

Tim what rpm does yours go across line

Not exactly sure mate you might be able to see it on my in car footage on YouTube, it's MrUNCOOLPRODUCTIONS. I know that just before I cross the line I have to shift from 3-4th. I have tried to cross the line in 3rd but it starts touching the limiter.
